What to do in the event of an accident?

Accidents can happen anytime or anywhere, even to seasoned drivers. However, following these steps hopefully will help you navigate a stressful situation more efficiently and ensure a smoother claims process.

Stay calm and check for injuries

Assess yourself and your passengers for injuries. Call for help if you require medical attention.

Get to a safe place

If you are able and safe to do so, move your vehicle to a safe location away from traffic, preventing further accidents. If not, turn on your hazard lights, and set up your emergency warning triangle to warn other drivers.

Document everything

Gather information from all parties involved. This includes:

  • Names, contact details, identity card number and driving license number
  • The make, model and vehicle number of all vehicles involved
  • Motor insurance/takaful information
  • Extent of damage to the vehicle(s) involved, location of the
    incident, weather conditions, and any witnesses present
  • Photos or videos of the accident (to be submitted to the
    police)

Seek assistance

Contact your insurer/takaful operator using their digital roadside assistance service. Use the geo-tracking to pinpoint your vehicle’s location and seek assistance for a tow truck to pick up your vehicle to your panel workshop. Do avoid non-panel workshops to ensure smooth claim processing.

Lodge a police report

You are required by law to lodge a police report as soon as practicable, and in any case within 24 hours of road assistance of your vehicle. The police report will be crucial for motor insurance/takaful claims and legal proceedings (if any).
